ในลัทธิประจักษนิยมอังกฤษ หมายถึงวัตถุโดยตรงของการรับรู้หรือความคิด ล็อคนิยามว่าเป็น "อะไรก็ตามที่เป็นวัตถุแห่งความเข้าใจเมื่อมนุษย์คิด" ฮูมแยกแยะ "ไอเดีย" ที่เลือนลางออกจาก "ประทับใจ" (Impressions) ที่แจ่มชัด
English Definition
In British Empiricism, the immediate object of perception or thought. Locke defined it as "whatever is the object of the understanding when a man thinks." Hume distinguished faint "Ideas" from lively "Impressions."
