สภาวะของการเป็นอิสระภายในสังคมจากข้อจำกัดที่กดขี่ซึ่งกำหนดโดยอำนาจเหนือวิถีชีวิต พฤติกรรม หรือทัศนทางการเมืองของบุคคล ในทางปรัชญา มักมีการกล่าวถึงในแง่ของ "เสรีภาพเชิงลบ" (อิสรภาพจากการแทรกแซง) และ "เสรีภาพเชิงบวก" (ความสามารถในการกระทำการตามเจตจำนงเสรีของตน)

English Definition

The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. Philosophically, it is often discussed in terms of "negative liberty" (freedom from interference) and "positive liberty" (the capacity to act on one's free will).
